Bigfork students take a look at summer work opportunities

With the promise of summer in the air, many students have begun looking for part-time or full-time jobs.

Last Wednesday, Bigfork High School hosted a job fair for students to connect with employers and apply for positions they are interested in.
Several of the employers at the fair highlighted that they are looking for “punctual individuals who can arrive on time,” as well as students with good self motivation to get tasks done.

The fair provided many choices for the students searching for summer employment, or even lifelong careers. Opportunities from serving at a restaurant, working in retail, to military service were present at the event held in the high school gym. Businesses advertised flexible hours, good pay and a willingness to work with their employee’s schedule.

“With students who work into the school year especially, we are willing to work around their school and sports schedules,” explained representives from the Montana Scene store.

Students added that they were looking for businesses with flexible hours, solid management and enough employees that they do not have to pick up a bunch of extra shifts.

Two representatives from Sliders hardware store explained that they are able to offer as many hours as the student’s are wanting.

“Since it is just a summer job, if you want to make money and work 55 hours, we can get you hours,” they said.

By offering multiple positions and employee benefits, the companies hope to draw in more young people before the wildness of summer hits.

Hosted by the Bigfork Chamber of Commerce, school administration and community members alike are excited for these kinds of opportunities to connect students with a variety of employers such as Logan Health, Pocketstone Cafe, Timbers Lodge, Mildren Plumbing and dozens of others.
