Homeschool Theatre Club presents ‘The Sound of Music’
A musical that has become beloved around the world, Homeschool Theatre Club next week brings “The Sound of Music” to the stage.
Shows are March 28 at 7 p.m., March 29 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and March 30 at 5 p.m. at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center.
Based on the true story of the Von Trapp Family Singers, the play includes music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.
Set in Austria on the eve of the Anschluss in 1938, the musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in love with the children, and eventually their widowed father, Captain von Trapp.
He is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. He and Maria decide on a plan to flee Austria with the children.
Many songs from the musical have become standards, including "Do-Re-Mi", "My Favorite Things", "Edelweiss", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain", and the title song "The Sound of Music."
The Homeschool Theatre Club is an educational club that seeks to educate the home-educated students of the Flathead Valley in the fine arts.
Admittance is by donation. Suggested donation is $5 for children and $10 for adults.
