Community Markets opening season
Bigfork’s community markets are opening for the season, with Bigfork Farmer’s Market Co-op set to start things up Wednesday, May 22 and Bigfork Monday Market following on Memorial Day.
The Co-op will have its usual crafts, baked goods, produce, honey, woodworking, food trucks and more next to the Liquor Barn at 22 Swan Highway. To kick off the warm weather, plant starts will be for sale for gardeners. As the seasons change, so will the goods offered. The Co-op is open to more vendor applications, available on their website www.bigforkfarmersmarket.com. They will run every Wednesday 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. through mid-October.
“Farming is kind of what Montana is about…” said Co-op President Olga Allen. “It keeps it going.”
“It’s all about supporting your neighbors and meeting your neighbors.”
The Monday Market starts Memorial Day and runs through Labor Day, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Bigfork, 191 Mill Street, host sites Lake Baked and Riverview Bar. Their baked goods, produce and artists are coupled with cocktails, food trucks and live music. Service providers such as massage therapists and henna artists are also at work.
“In an effort to support our community along with 345 Farmstand we are also bringing back SNAP (supplemental nutritional assistance program). Land to Hand will be at our June 3rd market to help people get set up and explain details on SNAP,” Market Coordinator Cassi Butterfield said.
