Repairs to Montana 35 south of Creston will continue through 2025
The Montana Department of Transportation and LHC Inc. are beginning work to rehabilitate approximately 7 miles of Montana Highway 35 southeast of Creston. The project begins about 1 mile southeast of Creston and ends about a half mile south of the MT 35 junction with Montana Highway 83 also known as Swan Highway.
This section of highway was originally constructed in 1957 and has seen much use since then. The last major reconstruction on this stretch of roadway was in 1996, but since then it has only received minor repairs and maintenance. This project is a cost-effective way of ensuring the highway receives these critical repairs, so it can continue to serve the traveling public for many years to come.
Planned improvements include removing and repaving the top layer of asphalt, sealing cracks in the roadway shoulders, adding new pavement markings and signage, adding new centerline and shoulder rumble strips, and applying a seal and cover. The purpose of this project is to extend the service life of MT 35, improve the ride of the existing pavement, and enhance roadway safety features.
Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in fall 2025. In 2024, crews will be crack sealing the roadway shoulders and installing new signage in the project area. Crews will return in 2025 to remove and replace asphalt in the driving lanes and chip seal the roadway.
When this project begins, motorists can expect to encounter single-lane traffic, flaggers or temporary signals controlling traffic, reduced speed limits and possible delays. Wide loads may be restricted at times. For current traffic conditions and up-to-date restrictions visit 511mt.net.
