Bigfork tennis battles Columbia Falls

The Bigfork Valkyries fell in a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Columbia Falls on the road April 17, while the Bigfork boys team struggled against a deep Wildcats roster.

Bigfork’s girls found success in singles, with Cassy Schlicht and Amanda Leonard earning decisive wins at the top of the lineup. Schlicht downed Bailey Windauer 6-1, 6-0, and Leonard topped Ella Heppner 6-4, 6-0. 

In doubles, the team of Gwenna Lustig and Payton DeSpain picked up a comeback win at No. 2 doubles, rallying after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-0. Columbia Falls took the other doubles matches.

The boys team faced a tough challenge, falling 7-0 to a sharp Columbia Falls squad. Andrew Kingery and Will Saari competed in both singles and doubles, with Kingery pairing with Seth Christians in a 6-0, 6-1 loss at No. 1 doubles. Dane Carlson and Saari fell in No. 2 doubles action, 6-2, 6-2. Despite competitive moments, the Bigfork boys were unable to slow down Columbia Falls’ experienced roster.
