Bomb threats investigated at Bigfork Schools
Bigfork Schools were closed this morning due to threats of violence against the district.
In a release, Flathead County Sheriff’s Office relayed that they received a crisis line message stating that an individual had shot someone, planted bombs at Bigfork Schools and intended to commit further violence at around 6:30 a.m.
Deputies in coordination with school personnel acted to ensure the safety of staff, students and the community. A message from the school district was sent out at around 7:30 a.m. stating,
“Earlier this morning there was a threat made against the high school through the 988 suicide hotline. While this has not been substantiated, we are taking it seriously and bringing in a police presence to determine the validity of the threat and to ensure the safety of Bigfork Schools. Because of this we have cancelled all Bigfork schools for February 26th. Students who have already arrived or have been picked up by bus will be waiting at the elementary for pick up. Thank you for understanding and knowing that we take the safety and security of your children and our staff seriously.”
FCSO reported initial findings indicate that the threat originated from an out-of-state IP address, and the investigation is ongoing. Patrol deputies, FCSO K9 teams, School Resource Officers, and Bigfork School personnel are currently following bomb threat protocols out of an abundance of caution. Bigfork School officials will provide updates regarding school closures and re-openings as information becomes available.
“We appreciate the cooperation and patience of the community as we work to ensure everyone’s safety,” FCSO said in their release.
