Swan Valley Connections and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes recently unveiled a new Elk Creek Conservation Area educational kiosk.

The Elk Creek Conservation Area is a square-mile parcel of land at the confluence of Elk Creek and the Swan River, owned and managed by SVC and the CSKT. The land was acquired in 2006 to protect vital fish and wildlife habitat, forest resources, and public access.

The area provides important habitat for grizzly bears, big game, and other wildlife species, and Elk Creek itself provides critical bull trout habitat. There is a conservation easement on the property that protects these values in perpetuity.

The new educational kiosk provides visitors with information about the Swan Valley, the cultural significance of this land and its species to the tribes, and the history of the Montana Legacy Project and the Elk Creek Conservation area.
