Four paddlers rescued from Wild Horse Island
Lake County Search and Rescue reported four people were rescued from Wild Horse Island on Sunday.
The group had paddled out to the island on Flathead Lake with a canoe and kayak and were unable to return to mainland due to wind and waves. Three SAR crew members went ashore at Wild Horse, found the group and hiked them back to a safer area to board the SAR boat.
Officials reported the four were wet and cold, but otherwise in stable condition. They also issued a reminder that the SAR boat is not kept on the water until mid to late May dependent on water level, which can lead to a two-hour delay for the boat crew to assemble and transit to the boat launch.
