As the Bigfork High School tennis team gears up for the 2025 season, Head Coach Matt Porrovecchio reflects on the progress his athletes made last year and looks ahead to this year’s campaign.

"Last season was a great one. Our athletes showed incredible growth and heart on the court—great competitors," said Porrovecchio. "We had some impressive wins, and even in tough matches, the team never backed down. More importantly, they had fun, supported each other, and improved every step of the way. I couldn’t have asked for a better group."

For Porrovecchio, this season’s goals are clear: "Our goal is simple — keep building on last year's growth and momentum. We want to be competitive in every match, develop and improve our skills, and finish the season strong. It’s not how you start, but how you finish. But most importantly, we want our players to enjoy the game, work hard, and maybe even laugh a little in the process."

Bigfork benefits from the experience of returning athletes who will serve as key contributors on and off the court. Their leadership and dedication will help guide the younger players and set the tone for a competitive season. Incoming fresh talent is always an exciting possibility as well.

"Every year, we get some fresh faces who bring new energy and talent to the court," Porrovecchio said. "We have a few athletes who could surprise some people in spite of their newness, and we’re excited to see how they develop."

One of the standout qualities of this year’s squad is their chemistry.

“These athletes genuinely support each other and push one another to be better," Porrovecchio said.

Beyond team unity, Bigfork has a strong balance of veteran leadership and emerging talent, creating a well-rounded roster with plenty of potential.

"We also have a solid mix of experienced players and up-and-coming talent, which should make for a fun season. And if determination counted for points, we’d already be undefeated!"

Competing in the tough Northwest A Conference is never easy, but it’s a challenge that Bigfork embraces.

"We compete in a tough conference with strong programs and great athletes. Every match is a challenge, but that’s what makes it fun. We know we’ll have to bring our best every time we step on the court," Porrovecchio said.

For Porrovecchio, however, one of the team’s biggest challenges might not come from their opponents.

"And, of course, my players’ biggest challenge this season? Probably dealing with their coach! But if they can survive that, they can survive anything," he said with a laugh.

With a strong work ethic, a supportive team culture, and a competitive mindset, the Bigfork High School tennis team is ready to take on whatever this season throws their way.
