Bigfork caps track season with top performances at State A
Bigfork athletes made their presence known at the Class A State Track and Field Championships held at Legends Stadium in Kalispell over the weekend. Despite a powerhouse collection of teams, the Vikings still were part of the conversation.
The Bigfork boys tallied 26 team points to place just behind Hamilton and ahead of Polson in the final standings. The highlight came from junior Austin Savik, who delivered a pair of top-three finishes in the hurdles.
Savik sprinted to third place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.36 seconds, behind Corvallis’ Stuart Brennan (14.53) and Frenchtown’s Brody Hardy (14.99). He followed that up with a silver-medal finish in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking 40.24 to again finish behind Hardy, who won in 39.09.
Savik’s strong performances accounted for 14 of Bigfork’s 26 points and capped an impressive postseason run for the standout hurdler.
In the field events, Tamret Savik added to the scoring total with a pair of podium finishes. He cleared 6 feet to place fourth in the high jump and reached 44 feet, 10 inches to claim runner-up honors in the triple jump, just behind Laurel’s Bridger Burrows, who won the event at 46-10.75.
Savik’s efforts gave Bigfork crucial points in a competitive boys field where just a few placements separated several teams in the top 10.
