Bigfork doubles duo shines at State A tennis tournament
Bigfork's tennis season concluded with a strong showing at the Class A State Tournament, as the Valkyries’ doubles team of Taylor Howlett and Raegen Waller made an impressive run in the girls doubles bracket, securing multiple wins and narrowly missing out on a podium finish.
The senior pair opened their tournament with a first-round victory over Dillon’s Shannon Martin and Coco Glossa, 6-3, 6-4. In the quarterfinals, Howlett and Waller fell to East Helena’s Janelle Taylor and Abby Hauer in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Howlett and Waller beat Dillon 6-3, 6-2 and then Corvallis 6-3,6-7 (7), 6-2 to advance to the consolation semifinals. However, their run ended in the next round with a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Whitefish’s Camry Kelch and Maggie Mercer.
The Bigfork tandem would fall again to East Helena’s Taylor and Hauer in the fifth-place match, losing 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 to cap off their tournament.
