Robert L. Brown, age 91, died peacefully at his home in Bigfork, Montana on July 27, 2018. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 3, 1926 and lived with his family in Harriman, Tennessee, Valdosta, Georgia, and Birmingham before serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After graduating from Auburn University with a degree in electrical engineering, he had a successful career with the Fusion Energy Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory where he was awarded numerous patents for his innovative work. A long-time resident of Kingston, Tennessee, Bob retired to northwestern Montana in 2000 following the death of his beloved wife Betty. He enjoyed a long second act as a published author whose works included novels and collections of short stories. “Buffalo Bob” as he was known to his loving family and many friends, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a cherished friend of quiet loyalty and gentle humor to all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Woman vs. dog, loser gets caged

A woman called Kalispell Police to inform them that she found a dog running loose and planned to punch the dog in the face if someone did not come to help contain it. According to the woman, the dog was barking and attempting to attack other dogs. The report stated the woman was screaming at the dog and slurring her words, but managed to inform dispatch that if an officer didn’t arrive in 10 minutes, she would “put a bullet in the dog’s brain.” The dog was returned safely to its owner a few houses down the road. The woman was reportedly arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

On July 7, 1918, four months before the end of World War I, a baby girl was born to Anton and Bessie Gamma on a ranch west of Kalispell at Ashley Lake. They named her Mary. Mary Bessie Gamma was raised on that ranch along with her older brother, Joe, and younger brothers, Frank and Henry. Mary, along with her brothers and the Ben Brist kids from the neighboring ranch, walked more than 2 miles to a one room school in all weather conditions to receive a formal education through the eighth grade. Sometimes tin the winter they would get a ride with the sled and team if the snow was too deep.

Neighbor drama over tractor trauma

The slaughter which occurred in a Florida school in February probably would never have taken place had the safeguards supposedly built into our safety network, which make it more difficult for the mentally dangerous to obtain firearms and/or ammunition, been followed. However, from all outward appearances, this system failed at all levels. From parents to school to public mental health to local police to the FBI, all failed to take appropriate action.

Bigfork Festival of the Arts celebrates 40 years
