The Bigfork Elves have been making Bigfork jolly since the 1970's. They met at 8 a.m. in front of the historic Bigfork Inn to begin decorating for Christmas 2021. An Art Walk took place after and was followed by the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The Vikings storybook run through the Class B football playoffs came to an end in the championship game at Florence Saturday as Bigfork fell to the top-ranked Falcons 42-0 to finish their season with nine wins and three losses.

15-year-old Zoë Sellers wants to remind America that we can accomplish so much more when we work together. This message resonated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4042 in Bigfork, who awarded her first place in their Voice of Democracy essay competition.
Bigfork Schools receive passenger buses
The Bigfork School Board met for their November meeting last Wednesday. The school recently received two 15 passenger buses after a request to purchase them was brought up at the board’s September meeting.
Valkyries trio earns postseason volleyball honors
Three Valkyries volleyball players picked up post season honors this week from the Bigfork squad that finished the season 12-10 (8-2 in District 7B play) and advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs.

Bigfork Rotary looks toward holiday season
Bigfork Rotary Club is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and President Serena Keller said the organization is gearing up for a couple of important events this holiday season. She said unfortunately, plans to celebrate the anniversary were thwarted by the pandemic, but it doesn’t stop the Rotary from helping folks in Bigfork.
Veterans Get Community Support For Camp Ponderosa Winterization
More than 60 volunteers showed up to help the North West Montana Veterans Stand Down and Food Pantry winterize Camp Ponderosa as part of a plan to renovate the camp into a retreat for veterans.

“The timber west of the divide must seek a more distant market, as there is not now, and probably never will be, any great local demand.” In 1899, H.B. Ayres, a surveyor for the US Geological Survey wrote these words in a report about much of the land on the western slope of the continental divide encompassing the entire Swan Valley. By 1913, however, the Flathead National Forest, sold over 9,000 acres of timber rights above Swan Lake to the Somers Lumber Company. Logging began almost immediately in October 1914 and continued for nearly five years until July 1919 producing 87 million board feet of sawlogs and 302,000 board feet of railroad ties. But wait, how did all those logs get from Swan Lake, all the way to the Somers sawmill at the northwest corner of Flathead Lake?
Vikings headed to state semifinals after victory over Townsend Bulldogs
A series of big plays by the Vikings and defense unwilling to surrender the same to its opponent brought Bigfork victory in Townsend Saturday as the Vikings defeated the Bulldogs 20-15 in the Class B state quarterfinals.

Football and Volleyball opened up post-season play last week as the Valkyries were in action at the 7B District Volleyball Tournament in St. Ignatius while the Vikings picked up a lopsided win at Glasgow in the opening round of the Class B football playoffs.

The Vikings cross country team is proving that hard work and dedication really do pay off. Less than six months after taking on the goal of running throughout the summer in the hopes of a top-five finish at the state meet, the team brought home Bigfork’s first boy’s cross country title in 46 years.
